Dune: Awakeningis a brand-new survival and crafting MMO developed by Funcom, and the game’s Steam reviews have abruptly switched from mostly negative to mostly positive.
On June 5th, players were able to get a head start exploring the desert lands of Arrakis, and despite some expected bugs and crashes,Dune: Awakening is having one of the smoothest launches in recent history.

With thefull launch scheduled for June 10th, Funcom CEORui Casais justreleased a statementon YouTube, giving thanks to the community for the success of the head start launch:
“It’s been quite the weekend. We never thought we would have so many of you joining us in head start. More than117,000of you played at the same time and you gave us a very positive rating on Steam. It is all incredibly humbling, and we’re so thankful for this reception.”
Dune: Awakening Reviews Set The Bar High
The gaming community has been supplying valuable feedback to Dune: Awakening’s development team, and they’ve been working “around the clock” to fix bugs, andlower patch and queue times, to make the overall experience smoother for everyone.
“We have patched almost every day, and we all acknowledge the disruption that causes, and we’ll have shorter patching times and downtimes going forward,” says CEORui Casais.
Video game releases have received quite a bad wrap in recent years for good reason, as we’ve seen many big-name games have extremely turbulent launches full of game-breaking glitches and bugs. In contrast,Dune: Awakening appears to be changing the narrative, fixing small issues as they arise based on community feedback, while giving gamers a smooth first impression overall.
“We know from all your feedback that there have been queues at times, especially when you opened up on Thursday and any peak times, and that’s because player distribution across servers can be a bit uneven, and we’re working to find ways to spread the load more and make sure you all get in when you want to play.” Says Casais.
The Dune: Awakening servers filled up quickly during the early-access period, but it didn’t break the game, and Casais says they’ve planned ahead to ensure the full launch goes according to plan.
“We have a lot more servers we will open tomorrow, So worry not, there is enough capacity for all of you.”
A Dune: Awakening player commented on the video message from Funcom’s CEO, to express their gratefulness for the scale and quality of the new game. “I’ve been playing since the 5th, and honestly the game is huge and brilliant, I’m 50 hours in and still nowhere near the end game.” Said YouTube User JK-Survival.
In a recent review of Dune: Awakening, Steam user Tordenstorm, a survival game veteran, outlined their impressions of the new MMO following the early-access experience.
“I have 1000’s of hours in survival games (Ark, Enshrouded, Valheim, Minecraft etc.) as a solo player, I can easily write that this is my favorite game of them all.”
Dune: Awakening has a seamless open-world where players will fight tosurvive against the elements, craft powerful gear, build a base, join factions and guilds, and customize your playstyle withcomplex skill trees.
There are a lot of ways to die in Arrakis, including dehydration, sandstorms, quicksand, and challenging combat, and the consensus seems to be that Funcom has given us some truly solid survival mechanics.
