David Lynch Is Still Bitter About 1984’sDune

David Lynch has profusely expressed his abhorrence toward the 1984 movie. Even after all these years, he still could not get over how he lost creative control over the project. He does not even want to see Denis Villeneuve’s version because it will only open old wounds. The director explained viaDune Info:

“There’s a huge gigantic sadness in my life because I did not have final cut on that film. Total creative control, I didn’t have it. The film is not the film that I would’ve made had I had that final control. It’s a bit of a sadness.”

While Lynch is still haunted by the past, it seems Kyle MacLachlan and Sting have already moved on. It was good that the 1984 cast held no ill feelings toward the new franchise, and hopefully, in the future, Lynch would give Villeneuve’s version a chance.

Dune: Part Twowill see the return of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides as he unites with the Fremen to plot his revenge against the enemies who ruined his family. The movie premieres worldwide on Aug 15, 2025. David Lynch’s 1984 version is available to stream on Netflix.
