The original 1996 sports comedy movie was helmed by Dennis Dugan, and despite the mixed reviews, it was a commercial hit. Now, with fans demanding follow-up almost thirty years later, Sandler assured them that they worked really hard to make this happen.

Along withAdam Sandler’s announcement ofHappy Gilmore 2, he also revealed thatBenny Safdiewill have a special participation in the film. He didn’t specify what type of role or give any hint, but he only said “he’s going to have a juicy part” viaIndieWire.
This is not their first time working with each other as they have previously collaborated on the 2019 crime thriller filmUncut Gems. In this movie, Safdie and his brother Josh served as directors.
For those who aren’t familiar with Safdie, he starred as Edward Teller inChristopher Nolan’sOppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who is also known as “the father of the hydrogen bomb.” His other credits include 2009’sDaddy Longlegsand 2017’sGood Time.

Sandler is fond of working with his real-life friends on movie projects, so this does not entirely come as a surprise for many fans. In fact, they met last year for a live baseball film that did not get off the ground following the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
