Dragon’s Dogma 2is one of the best open-world Fantasy game we’ve ever played, andwe said as much in our glowing review. This game has a vast open world to explore with danger around every corner. While quests are compelling and often offer significant progress, wandering off to explore the nooks and crannies of the world was often just as rewarding.

Your journey is going to take you to Vernworth, which is a wonderful city.Once you get there, you’ll see there’s an oxcart near the city’s front gates. This oxcart will take you back to Melve any time you like. Oxcarts aren’t quite fast travel, but they are a reliable means of transportation that still leave the door open to adventure.
Near the oxcart, you’ll see a man who is looking to establish a route between Melve and Vernworth.He’ll offer to pay your way on the oxcart if you’ll escort it to Melve. This is where our writers began to have differing experiences.Some of our writers did this quest and returned to Melve fairly quickly.When they arrived, Melve was under attack from a dragon. You’ll want to face this dragon immediately.You don’t have to defeat it completely, as it will fly away once you’ve taken out a bit of its health.
Since the dragon does rise up into the air and fly away, you should avoid climbing on its back to attack it. In fact, it’s best to hang back a little during this fight and place your attacks carefully. Dragons are wickedly dangerous.
After the dragon leaves, you’ll be approached by a hooded man wielding a duospear.Ask him about his fighting style, and you’ll unlock access to the Mystic Spearhand, a Vocation of this man’s own making.
Now, there’s a chance that, like me, you won’t trigger this attack on your first trip back to Melve.So, I returned to Vernworth and spent a while completing the main objectives for Captain Brant.Eventually, when I went back to Melve to see if the dragon would be there, it was!I was able to fight the dragon and unlock the class the same way my coworkers had the evening before. So, if you return to Melve and don’t see the dragon attacking, don’t be disheartened. You likely didn’t miss anything. It just means the game needs a little more time to cook before you return again and unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation.
