It is no secret that the production ofDMC 2was a nightmare and a lengthy process and Capcom did everything humanly possible to make it work. Fortunately, the gaming company is full of talented people, and director Hideaki Itsuno was approached by the higher-ups and forced to work on the project. If he had not stepped in and offered his services and expertise, there is no telling what would have happened to the secondDevil May Cryentry.

Game development can take a toll and creatives like Itsuno can make or break the entire project. The development ofDevil May Cry 2is a cautionary tale of biting more than a developer could chew.
The Worrying State of DMC 2 Forced Capcom to Pull out One of Its Best Directors
The success of the originalDevil May Cryinspired Capcom to develop a sequel immediately. Unfortunately, the developers failed to realize that success requires time and have encountered countless problems during production. The series was renowned for its hack-and-slash gameplay, and each new entry elevated the franchise to new heights, but all of it was nearly snuffed out due to the messy process ofDevil May Cry 2.
Haha, well there is a reason why I did not mention that one.pic.twitter.com/SQrrbYMM7K

Director Hideaki Itsuno was pulled out of his development process for his dream project to work on the sequel against his will because he was on the verge of creating a steady foundation for what eventually became the firstDragon’s Dogmagame. The director continued to direct future sequels of theDevil May Cryseries to redeem himself and the franchise with what transpired in his first project.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Incessant Enemies Represent a True RPG Experience Where No-one, Not Even NPCs are Safe
Amidst the chaos, Itsuno was able to work on his dream project and garnered universal praise from the gaming community. A few years later, Itsuno directed a sequel that was worth the wait and should have been the standard Capcom upheld years ago for the earlierDevil May Crygames.Fans were blown away by the attention to detailand the level of fidelity of the artificial intelligence shared across NPCs and enemies.
Director Hideaki Itsuno Carried the Devil May Cry Series While Building Dragon’s Dogma
Building a game from the ground up while taking the helm of sequels of another franchise can be daunting but Itsuno did not falter. In less than 2 weeks,Dragon’s Dogma 2caught up with the impressive sales record ofDevil May Cry 5, and both games were directed by Itsuno, a testament to his skill in this craft.
From Dave Bautista’s Glossu Rabban to Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha, Dune: Awakening’s Character Creator Could Rival Dragon’s Dogma 2’s for Accuracy and Flexibility
There is no telling what the franchise would look like today if Capcom had not approached Itsuno and entrusted the last few months of development. Although it might not be the ideal circumstance to get the job as a director and advisor, Itsuno tried his best and wanted to prove the franchise has potential while simultaneously working on something else.
Capcom learned its lesson the hard way and decided to take things slow after the chaotic production ofDMC 2. Succeeding installments were a critical and financial success, especially the most recent entry, and it came at the cost of the rushed production ofDevil May Cry 2.
