In an era dominated by larger-than-life superhero flicks, sometimes a change of pace works like a charm. Marvel Studios learnt that with its first ever special,Werewolf by Night,a 53-minute long movie (some believe that it borders between the idea of a movie and a show).

Starring the likes of Gael Garcia Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Kirk Thatcher, and Harriet Sansom Harris, the special was held in high regard by both fans and critics. Given its reception, it did not come as a surprise that people want more of it. And director Michael Giacchino might have the positive update all of us were waiting for.
Werewolf by Nightwas the perfect special for MCU
At a time when any news about the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be revolving around how its next phase will pan out, YouTuber Brandon Davis had quite the query forMichael Giacchino– is a follow-up toWerewolf by Nighton the cards.
The special made its mark felt amongst the fans, with many appreciating how it seemed analogous in the Marvel universe, tapping into the macabre like the MCU never had. And they managed to do that in style.

Apart from winning fans over,Werewolf by Nighthas left even the critics in awe, with a rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. No wonder the fans are all in for watching a sequel to the first Marvel Studios Special Presentation.

It seems like they will have to wait for some time before their dream comes to pass. And director Giacchino has shed some light on the reasons why the time isn’t right for the sequel.
Michael Giacchino believes that a sequel toWerewolf by Nightcan’t be written off
In response to the query raised by Brandon Davis, Michael Giacchino himself found it difficult to arrive at a possible answer. And this is in part down to the times we live in. At a time superhero fatigue is the buzzword, touching any project that even has inkling of the word ‘super’ is not being perceived as a bankable option by Marvel. But times change.

The composer turned director hints that better things might be round the corner wasn’t. He said,
“A great question I’m gonna ask that too. You know like there’s been a lot going on in the industry and everyone sort of recalibrating and I think certain things had to be just put aside for the moment and we’ll get there.”(YouTube)

Fans hope that they soon manage to ‘get there’, making a sequel about some of their favorite characters, bringing them back to life.

My bet is that they will return after the multiverse saga, for maybe setting up a possible supernatural saga, or at least more projects with this thematic.
Whether and how they manage to return is anyone’s guess. What matters is the bringing it back part. And with monsters a part of the MCU, who knows what paths we will explore ahead. Let us remember that even Blade is joining the fold. The MCU looks set to move forward in a new direction.
