Even if you’re not a big of the Star Wars Jedi franchise orGod of War 3, it’s hard to deny how great these games turned out to be. Naturally, when the games' director builds their own studio, we’d want to keep an eye on whatever game they’re working on.
I Love How Jedi Survivor Makes You A Badass From The Start
I warn you not to underestimate my powers.
While not a household name like Hideo Kojima or Shigeru Miyamoto, Stig Asmussen has made some notable games, with the most recent one being Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for Respawn Entertainment. In 2023, Asmussen departed the EA-owned company to establish his own AAA studio, Giant Skull.
Seasoned Game Director Now Working On Dungeons & Dragons License
It turns out the God of War Ragnarok game director isn’t straying far from his expertise. Wizards of the Coast, the company that owns the Dungeons & Dragons IP, has announced they are partnering with Giant Skull to develop an “all-new, single-player action-adventure title set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons.”
The still-untitled game will use Unreal Engine 5, and is slated for release on consoles and PC. Unfortunately, that’s all the info we know so far. Understandably, Giant Skull isn’t ready to talk about this project yet, though they did have a prepared statement about the project.

In a statement about the new project announcement (viaEurogamer), Asmussen said, “Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity. Our goal is to craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat, and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.”

Given the lore behindDungeons & Dragons, Asmussen has a lot of history behind his new game. The last two games Asmussen worked on were Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, both of which were commercial and critical hits.

Released in 2023, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was a highly-regarded sequel. Our reviewdiscussed the technical issues it had at the time, but even with that in mind, it concluded, “Even with the frame rate dips, occasional fuzzy textures, and uneven pacing, this game is a phenomenal sequel, a fantastic Star Wars game, and just a straight-up great game.”
Once we know more about Asmussen’s D&D project, we’ll let our readers know.
