The video game industry is being hit by waves of studio closures, layoffs, and canceled projects, and Supermassive Games states their cuts are part of aredundancy consultation process. “This decision was not taken lightly, and we know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone. Our absolute priority will be to offer full support to all those affected.”

Directive 8020 Delayed To 2026 Due To Layoffs

There’s been a long list of layoffs in the gaming world recently, including some big names such asMicrosoft,Ubisoft,EA, andKing, the developers of Candy Crush. As the industry continues to evolve, and many companies are injecting artificial intelligence into their development process, Supermassive Games says the decision to make cuts is vital to staying ahead of the curve.

“The games industry remains a challenging and ever-evolving environment. As we adapt our team structure to better align with these changes, we’ve had to make the very difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process where we anticipate losing up to 36 of our colleagues.”

For many people, a new Dark Pictures horror game is the perfect way to get into the spirit of Halloween, and although we won’t be able to enjoy fending off the alien organisms of Directive 8020 this October, the community is just happy they’ve been given properwarning of the delay.

While gamers will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on 8020, Supermassive Games states theirpuzzle-platformerhorror gameLittle Nightmares 3 is still on track to launch on October 9th 2025, and the layoffs will not affect its development.
