It’s been a rough go for Battlefield fans as of late, even with optimism surroundingBattlefield 6. The once lauded FPS franchise hasn’t seen the consistent mainstream success that its competitor,Call of Duty, has.

Battlefield 2042, the most recent entry in the series, was panned by critics. Our sister site, Game Rant, gave it a5/10 in their review, saying that it “isn’t just a lackluster Battlefield game, it’s a bad FPS in general.”

That doesn’t stop Battlefield fans from being optimistic, though. Yes, it’s the nature of the game for Battlefield fans to get excited before ultimately being disappointed, but hey, we just want to play a goodBattlefield game.

It’s something that EA and DICE are aware of as well. “We’re always listening,” said Alan Pimm, Criterion user experience director for Battlefield 6, in an interview withTechradar. “I think there are times when some voices can be disproportionately loud, and it’s not necessarily that they’re wrong. It’s not wrong for them, it just might be wrong for the whole community, and that’s what we have to assess. That’s our job.”

To shape a better future forBattlefield 6, EA and DICE are looking to the past.

“Battlefield 3 and 4 were our strongest muses,” Pimm said, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise. That doesn’t mean that’s their only inspiration, though.

We finally get some clarity on what machine you need to run Battlefield 6.

Pimm added that the development team is looking at everything from the franchise’s past. “The maps, the modes, the gameplay, the features, that were good in each, whether it’s 1, 5, 3, 4, including 2042. What things didn’t work? What things can you not launch without?”

This combination of drawing from what worked throughout past Battlefield games, combined with taking in player feedback, is something EA and DICE are hoping will lead to a successful Battlefield 6 launch.Battlefield 6will be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on August 19, 2025. An open beta will take place August 9-10, and August 14-17.
