The dark first chapter ofDiablo 4’s expansion came with a brutal and gory trailer, and we were here for every second of it. Put under the spotlight at the Xbox Games Showcase, Vessel of Hatred will explore a horrific new region, a brand-new class, and also the much-anticipated inclusion of pets.
What really drew the crowd to gasp in awe (and delight) wasBlizzard’s uber-grotesque and bloody trailer that showcased the character named Neyrelle holding a floating stone and then moments later getting ripped apart. If that was just too much for you, you might want to close your eyes for anything further, as a developer who worked on the title says there’s a lot more to come.

Packed with blood, guts and plenty of skin stretching, theDiablo 4: Vessel Of Hatred trailerwas as satisfying as it was monstrous. The short clip showed Neyrelle as a passenger on a boat who becomes infected by the stone’s power, slipping her into another realm where she becomes trapped by a huge demon. While in the process of getting her limbs stretched and skin pulled, she then slips back into her “normal” world to find her ferryman impaled. All lovely viewing to be honest.
Although still relatively tame for a gore and torture lover like myself, Diablo 4: Vessel Of Hatredtrailermay have seen some fans slightly unsettled - thus its purpose being fulfilled. If, like me, you’d love Blizzard to turn it up a notch even more, then our wish may soon be granted.
James Davis, a former Blizzard dev who worked on the trailer, has teased via Twitter/X that the best is still yet to come. “I worked a bit in the cinematics for Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred. If you like what you saw in the opening cinematic, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Truly, they’re cooking up something special!”, posted Davis.
Harrison G. Pink, currently the Lead Game Designer at Cyan, Inc. and previously, like Davis, worked as a Blizzard dev for Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, also had athing or two to sayon Twitter/X about that blood-soaked clip. “Seeing the final work I did for Diablo IV have its trailer released today has me feeling ALL KINDS OF WAYS. Some of my favourite quest work I’ve ever done is in this expansion, and I can’t wait for y’all to see it.”
The narrative of Vessel of Hatred continues from the end of Diablo 4, where players will be greeted by a new jungle region called Nahantu, or Torajan to outsiders. What’s exciting, though, is to see even more of this new expansion’s deliciously horrific cinematics, whereas, in the world of Diablo, nothing is ever ‘too much’.
