Weapon crafting was introduced in the Witch Queen expansion forDestiny 2, and it’s offered a lot of customization options, allowing players to select their ideal perks for certain available weapons. For Guardians who missed out on the Witch Queen expansion, or for players returning to the game after a long break, this system might be completely new.

TheResonance FoundryandFoundry Shapingquests, introduced alongside Season of Plunder, streamline the weapon crafting process, priming you onDeepsight Resonanceweapons, how to acquire weapon patterns, extract resonance, and how to ultimately craft them. Even if you don’t have the Witch Queen expansion, you don’t want to miss out on these questlines.
Resonance Foundry Quest
Travel to Savathun’s Throne World location from the destinations tab, then travel toThe Enclaveon the left side of the map. This is where you’ll begin the Resonance Foundry quest, and it’s where you’ll want to return in the future when you feel like crafting a new weapon.
Once you land, turn to your left and head through the tall foreboding doorway and down a set of stairs. In the room beyond, you’ll find a massive relic—an altar of sorts—with a pendulum swinging overhead. Walk around to the left side. You should spot ablue crown, indicating a quest.
Step 1: Acquire Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle
Once you initiate the quest, you will be offered a Deepsight Resonant Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle—a pretty decent Solar Auto Rifle. You can recognize Deepsight Resonant weapons by theirred borderin your equipment screen. Take the Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle in order to advance the quest.
Step 2: Use The Weapon In Playlist Activities
For the next step, you’ll want to equip the Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle (or another Deepsight Resonant weapon) and use it duringplaylist activitiessuch as Vanguard, Crucible, or Gambit. You’ll need to complete at least one activity (dealer’s choice), and you’ll also need to complete theDeepsight objective, which is that attunement percentage bar you’ll find on the weapon itself. You increase this bar by defeating enemies with the weapon. Once that bar fills up, extract the resonance on the weapon screen.
Step 3: Do It Again
After completing step 2, you will receive another Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle with Deepsight Resonance (red border).Do not scrap this!For this next step, you’ll want to complete a similar process again. Level up the new Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle by defeating enemies—these enemies can be found in the open world, or you can choose to defeat enemies in an activity playlist like the previous step. After reaching 100% attunement, extract the resonance to advance this quest.
If you accidentally scrapped the second Ammit AR2, you’ll simply need to acquire another Deepsight Resonance weapon and perform these same steps with it. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to wait to acquire another one—or start the quest over. Scrapping the second Ammit AR2 can be pretty frustrating, so attempt to resist the instinctual urge to scrap that new gun in your inventory (or postbox).
Step 4: Return To The Relic On Mars
Once you’ve completed step 3, head to The Enclave andturn in the questback where you acquired it—along the left side of the relic from when you enter the pendulum room. You’ll acquire someResonant Alloy, which you may use for weapon shaping (crafting).
After step 4, you will have completed the Foundry Resonance Quest, unlocking access to the next stage of the weapon tutorial, theFoundry ShapingQuest.

Foundry Shaping Quest
Step 1: Acquire Taipan-4fr Linear Fusion Rifle
When you begin this quest, you will be given a pretty goodTaipan-4fr Linear Fusion Riflewith Deepsight Resonance. You’ll want to equip it and completeplaylist activities(Vanguard, Crucible, or Gambit) in order to complete this objective. Once this is completed, you’ll move onto step 2.
Step 2: Play Dares Of Eternity Or Wellspring
For step 2, you have a couple options. If you have the Witch Queen expansion, you can choose between playing a round of Dares of Eternity or Wellspring. Dares of Eternity can be found on its own node in the system map, and the Wellspring activity can be accessed from Savathun’s Throne World map location. If you do not have the Witch Queen expansion, you must runDares of Eternity. Since you have a chance to acquire a Deepsight Resonance Throne World weapon by running the Wellspring activity, that’s likely the better option between the two—if you have access to it, but there’s no denying thezany funof Dares of Eternity.
Regardless of which you choose, ensure to have your Deepsight Resonance weapon equipped. You can run these with your new Taipan-4fr Linear Fusion Rifle, or you can accomplish this task with another Deepsight Resonance weapon you have on you. Justmake sure it’s equippedfor the activity.
Step 3: Complete Deepsight Resonance Activity
Similar to completing the Resonance Foundry quest steps, you’llneed to attunethe Deesight Resonance weapon to 100% by defeating enemy combatants and/or runningplaylist activitiessuch as Vanguard, Crucible, or Gambit. Once the weapon’s attunement level has reached 100%, you mustextract the resonant energyin order to complete step 3.

Step 4: Return To The Relic For The Weapon Pattern
Head back to The Enclave on Savathun’s Throne World node in the system map. Once you land, head down to the relic and interact with it on the left side. You will thenclaim the weapon pattern, which will allow you to craft this weapon repeatedly.
Step 5: Shape A Weapon
You might have noticed the relic has two nodes: the one on the side and one on the front. In order to shape a weapon of your choice, head to thefront of the relic(across from the entrance to this pendulum room) and interact with it.
Once you’re in the Shaping menu, select ‘Shape Weapon,’ then you can choose your weapon of choice from the options available from the Kinetic, Energy, and Power weapon categories. You should at least have access to shaping the Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle and the Taipan-4fr Linear Fusion Rifle from the earlier Foundry Resonance and Foundry Shaping quest steps, respectively. TheTaipan-4fris generally considered abetter option, but whichever you choose will be perfect.
In order to shape a weapon, you will need 750 Resonant elements, 5 Resonant Alloy (you can receive this from dismandling Legendary purple weapons), and 10,000 Glimmer in order to complete the weapon shaping.
Step 6: Level Up Your Crafted Weapon
You’ll notice on your new weapon that it now has a level (level 1 to be exact). Bydefeating enemiesandcompleting activities, you will slowly level this weapon up, earning access to new perks for crafting new versions of the weapon.
In order to complete this step, you’ll need to level up the weapon once. This can take some time, but keep at it. You’ll slay enough enemies of the light in no time.
Step 7: Return To The Enclave
After leveling up your shaped weapon to level 2, you will be prompted to return to the Enclave, accessed via Savathun’s Thone World node on the system map. You will earn anAscendant Alloyfor completing this step and for completing this quest.
Between theFoundry ResonanceandFoundry Shapingquestlines, you should have a solid grasp of the basics to acquiring weapon patterns and crafting them to your exact specifications.
