Only a few days after its much-anticipated release,Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion now has a “mostly negative” review badge onSteamwith only 30% of reviews being positive, as most players blameBungiefor a disappointing story and lackluster subclass of Strand.
Before its launch, Bungie had high hopes for Destiny 2: Lightfall, defining the expansion as the “beginning of our end” and promising rich story content, but now it seems the story is the exact part that makes Lightfall a failure, as most Steam reviews call it a huge downgrade from The Witch Queen.

Aside from the story, the player base also seems dissatisfied with the new Strand subclass. While most players admit it is fun to grapple and swing around, there is a common belief that Strand doesn’t add any significant value to the game when it comes to dealing with bosses. Of course, Strand will require more upgrades to become as popular as Void and Solar subclasses, but in the first step, it doesn’t seem impressive for gamers.
Moreover, some of the reviews criticize the bold presence of Strand in Lightfall’s campaign which sometimes overshadows the main clash going on between Light and Darkness. The ending of the campaign is also another disappointing part of the expansion for players, which leaves you with yet another cliffhanger to be answered in The Final Shape DLC.
At the moment, it seems Neomuna is the only thing that players have partially enjoyed. While most reviews praise the beauty of Neomuna and the fact that it looks different from other Destiny 2 locations, some fans believe that it feels small and empty at certain points.
Currently, players have access to both the Lightfall campaign and Season of the Defiance story missions. There is also a new raid coming on March 10, which will reveal more story details about Lightfall and Neomuna, but it remains unknown if we will get answers to all the questions that were created by Lightfall’s campaign.
The next Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape, will be available in 2024, but before we reach there, three more seasons are set to arrive with their own stories.
