The Lords Of The Fallen, A spiritual successor to the original game of the same name wasannouncedduring Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. Developed by HexWorks, a new development studio founded in 2020, The Lords Of The Fallen will launch for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC sometime in 2023.
According to publisher CI Games and developer HexWorks, The story of The Lords Of The Fallen will still happen in the same world as the original 2014 game, but after over a thousand years in time, and into an even darker age. It seems a sequel couldn’t simply contain the scope of the new game, as the size of the world has increased up to 5 times more than the old world. Not to mention it now has a co-operative multiplayer component, in addition to the original single-player direction, and a complete game-changing parallel world theme.
In The Lords Of The Fallen, players will journey across two parallel worlds in an epic quest to overthrow Adyr, the tyrannical demon god. Each world comes with its own set of challenges, and players will be equipped with a Lantern device that allows them to cross between the two worlds freely. The concept is not only about reaching secret places and uncovering hidden treasures in each world, but also appears to be hinting at something related to the souls of your enemies. The announcement blog post however did not go in-depth yet about this new mechanism.
In the manner of FromSoftware’s iconic Sekiro, players in The Lords Of The Fallen will be reborn again after death for a final chance at living, but it would be better to say that it is similar to Demon’s Souls in the aspect that you will be reborn in the land of the dead first, and fight in order to go back to your original world. The FromSoftware inspirations do not stop there though, as the online co-op contains an invasion mechanic where players can invade each other’s games, but it will also add community events and rewards to enrich the online experience beyond the normal main story missions.
The Lords Of The Fallen promises fast and challenging gameplay, with a focus on both physical combat and devastating arcane magic attacks. There are nine classes available, including Knight, Rogue, and Fire Apprentice, and more than 100 brutal weapons to choose from, as well as the complete freedom to customize your character’s appearance with a wide array of visual options. The game is now available to wishlist onSteam, with a promise from the community manager to release more news about the game in the near future.
