Dandadanhas just debuted its anime series and has immediately become the talk of the town. Why, you ask? Because rather than focusing on the powerups of a single character, the mangaka ofDandadanhas created a spectacular cast filled with weirdoes.

From a guy who has lost his family jewels, a girl who thinks she is chosen just because she is beautiful, a granny spirit-medium who looks nothing like the stereotype, all the way to some incredible aliens and yokai. It seems the mangaka knows how to catch his readers by surprise at every turn of the page.
Author ofDandadan, Yukinobu Tatsu, Chooses His Favorite Character
Yukinobu Tatsu both writes and illustrates theDandadanmanga. The series has been published in the Shonen Jump+ magazine and website since April 2021. The manga has beenlaunched into popularityeven more with its anime debut. The series has somedynamic charactersthat have become extremely popular among fans.
Inan interview, the author admitted that his favorite character among them all is Momo Ayase.

I put so much feeling into Momo from the beginning. I wanted to draw a cute girl. That’s why I like her. Also she’s very strong-willed. She’s awesome and I like her.
Momo Ayase is a brilliant character and her dynamic presence has been benefitting the series from its very first character. While she was introduced as a heartbroken gyaru in the beginning, she evolved her psychic powers to become someone who is as powerful as the protagonist. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that her personality overpowers the meek Okarun. She is definitely cute, but that’s just the start of her overall character.

Ayase is not afraid of saying what’s on her mind and comes off as rather rude due to her outspokenness. But she is a normal teenager at the end of the day who has to deal with aliens and ghosts all of a sudden; no wonder she curses so often. Add her love of Ken Takakura, a famous celebrity, to the mix, and you have the perfect female lead.
Yukinobu Tatsu’s Female Characters Stand Out From the Rest
The Shonen world at large treats female characters as mere sidenotes. They fall madly in love with the protagonist, support him through thick and thin, and even if they become powerful, they always need rescuing. The female characters inDandadan, on the other hand, are the ones who do the rescuing.

Firstly, there’s Ayase Momo who is bold and fierce and never gets intimidated no matter how big of a threat emerges. She is a genius when it comes to dealing with yokai and aliens and often comes up with ingenious ways to defeat them. Secondly, her granny, Seiko Ayase, is a character who is bound to surprise everyone with her young appearance. She is a no-nonsense spirit medium, who is an expert in her field and often instructs the youngsters on what to do. She might be a grandma, but that doesn’t stop her from brashly bickering with teenagers.
Next, there’s Aira, who was first introduced as a mean beauty, who always asumed she was a chosen one by God due to her charming face and personality. However, just like Momo, she is also outspoken once she has found the right group of friends. All of these characters are extremely powerful and evenOkarun can’t dareto go against them.

Dandadanmanga is available to read on Viz Media and MangaPlus, and the anime is currently streaming on Netflix, Crunchyroll and Hulu.
