From family jewels to pervy aliens,Dandadanhas its fair share of wacky moments. But it gets weirder and creepier as the plot progresses. The outlandish shonen series by Yukinobu Tatsu is a total banger in its exploration of themes.

Be it family, relationships, friendships, or heartbreak, it is wholesome with a sprinkle of old-school romance. Aside from that, the series may have signaled a concerning situation according to fans.
In particular, fans have associated daddy issues with Aira’s crush on Okarun. The pink-haired queen bee and her antics may be annoying, but there is a deeper meaning to it. And while it seems excessive, the theory might be partly plausible.

Additionally, it also circles back to themes of family and soul bonds in the series. In his writing of family dynamics though, Yukinobu Tatsu may have left certain loose ends.
Aira’s crush on Okarun tied to Daddy issues
Aira Shiratori was probably one of thehated charactersin the series. Initially, she is introduced as a mean-spirited queen bee who looks down on everyone including Okarun. As the series progresses, we see a different side to her persona.
Like most characters in the series, her life is ridden with complexities. Often, fans have attributed her need for validation to her parents’ absence. This is especially true for her relationship with Acrobatic Silky which reflected her need for a mother.

In retrospect, her parents’ absence could’ve shaped her ideas of romance and self-concept. This is true forher perverse actionstoward Okarun in the series. Her trying to kiss him and proclaiming love toward him is truly cringe for the most part.
While it seems off-putting, there could be a deeper meaning behind it. Of late, fans have put forth an interesting, bizarre yet hilarious theory regarding her crush on Okarun. And while it seems a bit of a stretch, it might be plausible.

Several Redditorsnotedthat she might have Daddy issues. This was followed by a thread of hilarious comments.
Overall, her relationship with her father hasn’t been explored well enough. And while the Reddit thread went on a gag reel, one thing is certain. While soul families and bonds take center stage in the series, Yukinobu Tatsu has yet to charter most of them.

Uncharted soul bonds and family dynamics inDandadan
Dandadanisn’t merely an occult series that encompasses urban legends and folklore. Rather, the show humanizes Yokai, aliens, and the in-betweens. Its navigation of relationships and families is what sets it apart.
It is unlike most Shonen series in its way of approaching romance, intimacy, and relationships. This holds especially true for its representation of a soul family. The writing of soul tribe and solidarity is what makes it superior to other series.
Amidstthe familial relationships, however, Yukinobu Tatsu left certain loose ends. This is evident with his skimming over Momo Ayase’s true family along with Okarun’s absent parents. And though this fuelled fan speculation and theories, there’s no certainty to it.

On top of that, the mangaka is yet to charter these issues in the series. Be it absent parents or negligence, the series has yet to delve deep into these aspects.
Dandadanis available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Shueisha’s Manga Plus app.
