Cyberpunk series creator Mike Pondsmith has given us a tease about where the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 will be set.

At Digital Dragons, a gaming industry conference in Krakow, Poland, Pondsmith sat down with Michal Manka of Find Your Next Game by GameStar to discuss the Cyberpunk series, the development of Cyberpunk 2077, and a brief tease about where the series is going with the upcoming sequel, currently codenamed Project Orion.

However, in his chat atDigital Dragons(Pondsmith’s segment starts around 3:06), he mentioned that the game might be taking us outside the boundaries of Night City, possibly across the country.

‘It Feels More Like Chicago Gone Wrong’

Pondsmith’s brief discussion of Project Orion comes right around the end of the interview, starting around 3:45:45, and it seems almost like his reveal of another city was something that slipped out by accident.

“I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys,” he says, “and he was explaining how the new place in Orion, because there’s another city we visit, not telling you any more than that. But there’s another city we’ll visit.”

And Night City is still there, but I remember looking at it and going, yeah, I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work. And it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong.

His mention of Chicago specifically is interesting, considering how fans on Reddit have noticed in-game ads in Cyberpunk 2077 promoting three-hour travel between Night City and Chicago coming in 2080.

The way he puts it sounds like both Night City and this new city will be accessible to players, maybe by way of this upcoming high-speed link with Chicago?

Of course, there have beenother rumors about where Project Orion will be set, and it’ll probably bea long time before the game is properly revealed, so who knows how things will develop in the coming years.
