A photorealistic mod forCyberpunk 2077has gone viral after dividing the game’s community online. While some believe the mod is “garbage” and “destroys the visual aspect of the game,” some think the mod looks “insane” and should be praised.

After a short clip of the mod was posted on X (formerly Twitter)by user Synth Potato, fans quickly began debating on whether or not the mod had taken Cyberpunk 2077’s graphics too far. “While this look amazing I feel like it loses all the ‘magic’ that was behind Cyberpunk 2077 being so colorful with all the neon lights and stuff,“X user Mnibx6c said.

Multiplayer is still fair game, though.

For those curious, or for those looking to replicate the look of this graphically intense mod, there’s a few different things you’ll need to download. The first is Nova LUT by theCyanideX, which can bedownloaded over on Nexusmods. With over 278,000 downloads at the time of writing, this popular mod adds “crisp visuals with a natural palette, using agX colorspace to bring the lifelike color to Night City.”

The second mod is Cyberpunk 2077 HD Reworked Project by HalkHogan, which can once again bedownloaded for free on Nexumods. This mod “aims to improve the graphics by reworking the game assets to a better quality, while preserving the original art style and ensuring good performance.”

Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Divided Over Insane Graphical Mod

While this photorealistic mod isn’t the first of its kind, having been accomplished in the pastfor titles such as Grand Theft Auto V, The Witcher 3, and many more, Cyberpunk 2077’s version has caused a divide over on X.

In response to Synth Potato’s post, which we’ve included below,X user Dan said, “I hope games DON’T go after this realism, this just kills the vibe of the game and looks dead. There’s a reason Rockstar isnt doing this type of photorealism for GTA 6, but stylized realism instead.”

Others, however, disagreed. “I don’t know if it is because of the global illumination and ambient occlusion.. but it really feels insanely realistic! I never thought a game could look this good,“NinetySeven said.

X user SlySinatra quote-retweeted the postand said, “Congratulations you completely destroyed the visual aspect of the game,” before calling it “garbage” in a follow-up post.

The good thing about this mod, however, is that you don’t have to use it! If this sort of photorealism is what you enjoy in your games, don’t let people tell you that you shouldn’t use it. Of course, you’ll probably need an incredibly beefy PC to run these mods too, so just bear that in mind.

Even if you do have a pretty powerful PC, photorealistic mods are more of a showcase of what can be achieved graphically. While these clips are incredibly impressive, I don’t personally know anybody that has played through an entire game with one of these mods installed.
