The show takes elements from the comic book, as a team of vigilantes hunts down superheroes who abuse their superpowers. Unfortunately, there are quite a few who do just that.

The story was initially adapted to be a feature film, but it was stuck in limbo for years before Cinemax picked it up in 2016 and handed the reins to Kripke. With a star-studded lineup, such asKarl Urban,Antony Starr,Erin Moriarty, and others, the showrunner delivered each time.

Kripke sat down for an interview withVarietylast year. The show creator spoke of where the new season will pick up, and the general direction the show will head in. He alsosounded a warningto the audience.

“In our minds, it’s only a couple of days after whatever the events are of “Gen V.” We try to keep the timeline super simple because all that folding-in-on-itself timeline stuff that I think other comic book universes find themselves having to do is just bewildering for me as a viewer. So it’s all very modular. It’s like there’s Season 3 of “The Boys,” and then after that “Gen V” takes place, and then after that “The Boys” Season 4 takes place. And then after that, “Gen V” Season 2 takes place. It’s all more like cars on a train than it is a plate of spaghetti,”he said.

In an unfortunate turn of events, one of the show’s leads, Chance Perdomo, died in a motorcycle accident recently. His absence will be felt acutely when the show returns.

Kripke’s show is available to stream on Prime Video, and the new season will be out on June 13.
