Chainsaw Man’sfirst episode was recently released, setting up the world of devils and the hunters who kill these monsters. Denji is a kid under a mountain of debt, trying to make it through life and eventually achieve his dreams. He had a pet devil named Pochita, who he used as a chainsaw. Denji initially became a devil hunter in order to help pay off his debt to the Yakuza. While Denji and Pochita have multiple money-making jobs, devil hunting is the most profitable.

At the end of thefirst episode, Denji and Pochita strike a new deal and merge into one. In exchange for living a normal life and achieving the dreams he talked about, Pochita became Denji’s new heart.
Denji Possesses The Powers Of A Devil While Also Maintaining His Human Form
Being half-human and half-devil, Denji is able to turn himself into Chainsaw Man. While in this form, he maintains his human personality but is given the powers of a devil. Normally, Denji appears as a regular human with a cord coming from his chest. Whenever he pulls the cord, his body transforms into its hybrid form. His head transforms into an orange mechanical head with long white teeth. From his forehead comes a fully functioning chainsaw. His arms are also split from his elbow down by other chainsaws, also fully functioning.
Each chainsaw is deadly and is very efficient at slicing anything, including devils. Beyond this, Denji is much more durable, being able to survive powerful hits and being thrown around in combat. His body was also brought back together even after being torn to pieces by the zombies. Denji has incredibly high stamina that allows him to fight much longer than an average human. Even after cutting down dozens of zombies and the Zombie Devil, he remains standing.
He is also much stronger than an average human, as half of his strength comes from his devil counterpart. During his first transformation, he was strong enough to pull out from a pile of zombies. These abilities help him compete against much bigger and stronger devils he wouldn’t be able to fight as a regular human.

Now, being half devil, Denji is able to regenerate much like a devil. Pochita is shown to be able to heal by consuming blood, and the Devil has given that power to Denji after fusing with him. When first introduced, Denji is shown missing an eye, a kidney, and other body parts that he sold. After merging with Pochita, his body was put back together, and his eye (and possibly other organs) were also back and functioning.
While in his hybrid form, Denji is able to melt away his devil form and revert to a human. Reverting also undoes the torn body caused by his chainsaws when initially transforming and only leaves the cord in his chest behind.
