Shueisha has announced that the second season of 2018’sCaptain TsubasaTV anime will cover the Junior Youth Arc, with Viz Media simulcasting the series in North America and Latin America as it airs in October 2023. A new teaser and commemorative visual have also been released, giving fans an early look at the sequel to the soccer anime.

Instead of David Production, this new arc will be produced by Studio KAI. Jun Fukuyama, known for his roles as Yukio Okumura in Blue Exorcist and Ango Sakaguchi inBungo Stray Dogs, will join the cast members for the second season as Karl Heinz Schneider. Returning cast members include Kenichi Suzumura as Genzo Wakayabashi, Takuya Satou as Kojirou Hyuuga, Yuuichirou Umehara as Ken Wakashimazu, and Ayaka Fukuhara as Taro Misaki. Yuuko Sanpei, on the other hand, will reprise his role as the protagonist Tsubasa Ozora.

Viz Media has already licensed the series to use its digital streaming and merchandise rights for North America and Latin America regions. The anime is currently being directed by Katsumi Ono, with other staff members featuring Atsuhiro Tomoika as scriptwriter and Hajime Watanabe as character designer and chief animation director.

The first season of the Captain Tsubasa TV anime began streaming in April 2018 and ended in 52 episodes in 2019. As for the second season, Shueisha said it will release sometime in October 2023.

The Junior Youth arc revolves around the same protagonist, Tsubasa Ozora, who is joined by a team of players as they build their own careers by defeating rivals on the pitch. The sequel follows Tsubasa and his friends as they go up against the best soccer players in the world in the International Junior Youth Tournament in Paris.

2018’s Captain Tsubasa anime serves as a remake version of the earlier cult-classic series, which was broadcast in the 80s and 90s. The original manga aired from 1981 to 1988 in Weekly Shonen Jump before getting adapted into multiple anime series. The anime’s second season does not have a firm premiere date yet. However, the good news is that it will be available for the international audience via Viz Media.
