It’s safe to say Monster Hunter Wilds has been a huge success for Capcom, but players on PC aren’t all singing the game’s praises.
Despite Steam player numbers shattering Capcom’s records andeven surpassing the all-time player peaks of the likes of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, Monster Hunter Wilds currently sits at “mixed” player reviews, withjust under 50% positive reviews.

While there were concerns before release about the game’slower difficulty relative to previous Monster Hunter games, that doesn’t seem to be the main thing players are having problems with.
There haven’t even been any significant server issues, despite the massive surge in players.

Most of the negative reviews are primarily targeting the game’s lackluster performance and optimization on PC, with even players well within its minimum requirements experiencing low and unstable frame rates.

Even players who found the game ran perfectly fine during the beta and in the benchmark are finding that the final product performs significantly worse – although even the betawasn’t without its problems.
Capcom’s Suggestions For Players Experiencing Issues
Capcom is aware of the problems players have been running into, and have made a post on their official Monster Hunter Status account on X, along with a page on theirsupport site, with some suggestions for players to try and help them improve the game’s performance.
Their suggestions range from the standard performance troubleshooting steps—such as reducing graphical settings, updating Windows and graphics drivers, and ensuring your setup meets the minimum requirements—to less conventional fixes, like disabling compatibility mode for Steam and the game itself, running Steam as an administrator, or logging into your PC with admin privileges and launching the game’s exe file directly.

If these steps all fail, Capcom suggests that players still having problems make a post in the game’s officialTroubleshooting and Issue Reporting Thread.
Monster Hunter Wilds has been a huge success despite the PC performance issues; Palworld developer Pocketpair is evengiving its employees the day off to play the game, following existing precedent in Japan to offer employees days off for big game releases.
