Sanji Vinsmoke, also known as “Black Leg” Sanji, is the head chef of the Straw Hat Pirates in thefamous anime/manga,One Piece. He’s not just known for his fighting prowess, but his role as a cook complements his character.

Throughout the series, Sanji cooks various dishes not only for his adored crew mates but also for anyone who’s hungry out on the treacherous seas or lands.

10 Best Anime Food You Can Enjoy In Real Life

If you are looking for some good NOMs, you should try some of these real-world anime dishes.

As a cook, he follows a set of rules while making some of the most savory dishes that you’ll ever see in an anime/manga. Here is my list of the eight best dishes that he has made in the series.

potato pallie

8Potato Pallie For Nami

Love At First Bite

When it comes to turning a basic and simple dish into the most flavorful food, Sanji never disappoints, especially so during thepre-timeskip events.

The Potato Pallie might sound really fancy, but this dish is simply made up of potatoes. Yet again, Sanji proves that a master chef can create the best of the best from something as simple as a potato.

The modan yaki in the one piece movie 6

The whole crew, especially Nami, loves this new dish so much that it makes our lady-charming chef obsessed withdoing anything to gain Nami’s affection.

This dish plays a very important role in restoring everyone’s physical and spiritual strength after the whole crew recently fought Admiral Aokiji.

7Modan Yaki

A Dish For Hundreds

The Modan Yaki is a dish that Sanji cooks in one of the movies of One Piece, specificallyOne Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.

The purpose of creating this dish is similar to the tuna meatballs, but this time around,Sanji is trying to show another chef named Kotetsu the proper etiquette of cooking.

One Piece Luffy Zoro and Sanji

Kotetsu likes to create his dishes in a flashy manner, which often results in the waste of ingredients. Sanji then challenges Kotetsu to a cooking competition and creates a huge Modan Yaki dish without wasting any ingredients.

The Modan Yaki consists of a pancake, noodles, and special sauces. Kotetsu was forced to admit defeat, and the series reminds us yet again that Sanji might just be the best cook to sail the seas in One Piece.

6Soba Shop In Wano

The Power of a Thousand Noodles

Sanji opens a soba shop to blend in with the people of Wano, and his Soba Noodles quickly gain the citizens' attention. Soba is a Japanese dish that consists of noodles that can be served either hot or cold with a bunch of garnishes or toppings to compliment it.

Sanji’s soba made him famous in the Land of Wano because of its extremely unique taste and quality. This dish also impacts Sanji’s character, and he ends up naming his Stealth Black form ‘O-Soba Mask’during the Wano arc.

This allows him to reject the name of the power that was given to him by his own family, who absolutely despised his presence.

Lastly, another major highlight of this dish was Sanji and Toko having a wholesome moment after giving her a fresh bowl of Soba since the previous one got knocked out of her hands by the Kyoshiro Family thugs.

5Tuna Meatballs For The Marines

A Masterchef’s Lesson

Sanji cooks tuna meatballsduring the comedic and filler-based G-8 arcto show the Marines how an actual cook uses even the smallest ingredients to create the fanciest dishes.

Sanji was able to deliver the message that taste can be generated from cheap ingredients as well, and you don’t need to spend a huge amount just to experience fine dining.

The other message that was able to get across to the Marines was of great importance. And it’s that cooks never waste their ingredients and must be able to create something full of taste and energy out of anything that is available to them.

4Sanji’s Dish For His Mother

It’s The Thought That Counts.

This is one of Sanji’s first dishes as a child, and it is for his sick mother. Now, the dish isn’t anything special, as it consists of omelette rolls and fish, but for an aspiring kid, the thought and care mattered the most.

Unfortunately, while Sanji was delivering the food, it got ruined on the way while tripping in the rain. The final product does not look very savory, either.

Nonetheless, his mother enjoyed the dish with a smile on her face, as if itwere the best thing in the world, and obviously, because her son made it with so much passion.

Just like Luffy, Sanji’s mother realized the love and affection that went into cooking this dish. This act of love invigorated Sanji’s passion for cooking, and his mother became one of the reasons why he is considered one of the best chefs in the world of One Piece.

3Big Mom’s Cake

Emperor Defying Taste

Let’s change the pace and sweeten up things with the wedding cake that Sanji makes for Big Mom in the Whole Cake Island arc with the help of his bride-to-be, Pudding.

This is possibly one of the tastiest dishes that Sanji has made in the entire series since it’s a giant and delectable dessert.Big Mom,a feared Emperor of the Sea, was filled with pleasure after tasting the cake.

She succumbed to its taste, which allowed the Straw Hat Pirates to escape from Whole Cake Island. The dish was so good that it made thebig bad villain of the arcforget her main objective, since she was captivated by its enriching taste.

2Sanji’s Bento For Luffy

Food That Reunites Friends

This is another dish that has a huge story significance and is very popular in Japan itself. A bento is a lunchbox composed of various foods, including rice, noodles, fish, meat, sushi, and vegetables.

Sanji initially makes this while on his way to meet Pudding, but after eavesdropping and learning her and Big Mom’s true intentions, his shock temporarily causes him to lose hope in himself and the bento box he crafted so endearingly.

This dish is particularly treasured by many in the fanbase and myself because Sanji’sbento boxfor Luffy in the Whole Cake Island arc acts as a bridge to rekindle their brotherhoodafter their grueling fight at the start of the arc.

Even though the bento wasn’t in good condition due to it being soaked and muddled in the rain, Luffy realized that the dish had been made by a chef and close friend who loved cooking, almost mirroring the instance with Sanji’s mom.

1Seafood Fried Rice

Not Even My Enemy Stays Hungry

I chose this dish not just because of its simplicity but because of its impact on the main story of One Piece. Sanji would never let a living creature sleep hungry, even if that person turns out to be his own enemy.

This trait is reflected initially in the series when Sanji cooks the fried rice for Gin at the Baratie, who later turns out to be a member of the enemy pirates.

As I’ve mentioned previously, this dish is also very simple to make, and you can choose to add things like beef and chicken instead of seafood to top off the rice as well.

During the Whole Cake Island arc,Sanji makes the fried rice again to remind everyone that none of his friends will stay hungryas long as he’s there to cook for them, along with his adoptive father Zeff joining in the frame to close off the arc.
