WhileDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachhas yet to be released, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima already has ideas for where the third game, and even other sequels, can go from where DS2 left off.
Here’s the thing: Kojima confirmed he won’t be developing it, as he wants to pass it on to someone else. With the game maker’s plate already full, it’s understandable why he would want someone else to continue the franchise.

Death Stranding 2’s Plate Gate Concept Can Make “Endless Sequels”
Speaking toVGC, Kojma talked about the “Plate Gate” concept and how it can spawn “endless sequels” by having Death Stranding games take place in different countries around the world.
Kojima shared, “If I use this Plate Gate concept, I could make endless sequels. I, of course, don’t have any plans to do that, but I already have a concept for another sequel. I am not going to make it myself, but if I passed it on to someone else, they could probably make it.”

While confirmation of Kojima not wanting to work on the potential Death Stranding 3, it’s understandable given he is 61 years old, and has multiple projects still in development. There’s the horror game “OD” he’s developing with Xbox, the espionage game being published by Sony with thecodename Physint, and also a feature film.
Death Stranding Movie Director Revealed
A24 and Kojima Productions picked a wildcard to adapt the game.
Kojima also talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic affected his development of Death Stranding 2, which has the tagline “We should not have connected.”

Kojima explains, “We released Death Stranding before the COVID-19 pandemic. The world was heading towards isolation and division, such as the UK leaving the EU. So I was saying, ‘Let’s connect. We’re headed for disaster if we don’t connect.’ That was the theme, story, and gameplay for Death Stranding. After the release, just three months later, we entered the pandemic, and I was really surprised – it looked like Death Stranding, in a way. In the real world – the 21st century – we have something similar to the Chiral Network, which is the Internet. This was a little different compared to the 19th century, such as the Spanish Flu or the like. We survived the pandemic because of the Internet and people were connected online.”
“It’s the strangest thing. After I created a game with the theme of ‘let’s connect instead of division and isolation,’ we had the pandemic, and I began to think, ‘Maybe it’s not such a good thing to connect so much’,” Kojima added.

Will we see Death Stranding 3 be developed by someone else at Kojima Productions? Perhaps if Death Stranding 2 sells well, we will. We’ll know whether that’s the case soon, asDeath Stranding 2 is set to be released on July 27, 2025, exclusively on the PS5.
