Be prepared with your spells, detective hat, and an eye for clues as you head to the Open Hand Temple of Ilmater in Rivington.
The Open Hand Temple
The Open Hand Temple is devoted to the god Ilmater, who is the god of suffering and compassion. Normally the temple receives refugees and people in need of aid, but when you come close to the doors you’ll see agroup of tiefling refugeeswho have been turned away. It seems the temple’s beloved Father Lorgan was allegedly murdered by a refugee, and the rest of the temple’s monks are now cutting off their help for those fleeing the Absolute cultists.
Talk to the monk at the door and you’ll be allowed in. She directs you to speak to Sister Yannis about Father Lorgan’s murder. you may find Sister Yannis at the back of the main temple chamber talking to a hollyphant named Valeria. Valeria is convinced the refugee Brilgor is guilty of the murder and considers the case closed, but Yannis isn’t so sure. Talking to Yannis will give you several leads to investigate to figure out what really happened to Father Lorgan in no particular order.

Father Lorgan’s Body
Head into the door to the left of the altar, and you’llfind Father Lorgan’s body on a bed.You can poke and prod, but the best way to learn what’s happened is tospeak with the dead. Use ascroll, item, spell, or potionand talk to Father Lorgan. He will reveal that Brilgor isn’t the murderer; he was killed by a dwarf dressed in red. This doesn’t narrow things down much, and it isn’t substantial enough proof for Valeria, so you’ll need to keep looking.
Brilgor’s Body
Headoutside the temple through the back doors and circle around to the graveyard.Near the gate that connects the graveyard to the Circus of the Last Day, you’ll find a fresh grave.Dig up Brilgor’s bodyand interview him to find out what he thinks of the murder. Again, this still isn’t enough evidence for Valeria, so head back inside.
The Tunnels Under The Temple
If you picked up thestrange amulet in Act 1’s Grymforgeand have the questHelp The Cursed Monk, make sure the amulet is in your inventory.Head into the kitchen and down the bloody hatchSister Yannis mentioned. You’ll find the basement of the temple, which isn’t really sinister on its own, but there’s a very obvious fake wall behind an altar. There is also a door leading to a room full of useful scrolls and a jump-able path into a cave system. Lastly, there’s a room with several entombed bodies, and this is where you can resolve the Help The Cursed Monk quest line. For now, interact with the Heraldic Sign plaqueto reveal two buttons. Press them and head through the wall.Get ready for a fightas you approach the scene of the crime.
You’ll run into a group of people who quickly aggro and reveal themselves as doppelgangers: shape-shifting beings that can take on any appearance. They aren’t a terribly tough fight, but they do use lots of poison, so it’s a good idea to be prepared with antidotes and appropriate spells.

Once you’ve dealt with the doppelgangers make sure youloot every single body in the area. You’ll find part ofDribbles the Clowndown here, which is a required item for his quest. You’ll also find aflower key and the murder weapon. Stillmaker is a very rare dagger that does 1d4+2 piercing damage and grants the wielder the Hold Person spell. Finally, you have some concrete evidence to present to Valeria, so head out of the caves and back into Rivington.

Wyrm’s Crossing
You’ll need to get into Wyrm’s Crossing from Rivington, which means you’re about to go toe-to-toe with amember of the Steel Watch. There are other options if you’re not confident in your ability to deal with a level 11 enemy yet, though: you canget help from Wulbren if you helped him at Moonrise Towers, you can sneak through with magic or spells, potions, items, and abilities, or you can head down the cliffs to the east andjust hop onto a balconyto go around the checkpoint. You’ll gain access to theWyrm’s Crossing Waypointand won’t have to deal with the checkpoint in the future.
Head to Fraygo’s Flophouse on the western sideof Wyrm’s Crossing. You can go in the front door or lockpick the one in the back. Head to the top floor andinteract with the wardrobeto reveal a secret door into a bedroom. You can snoop around for clues and find another corpse, another flower key, and several papers to read. One of these papers is alist of assassination targets.

With all your hard-earned evidence in hand, head across Wyrm’s Crossing to Sharess’s Caress andfind Valeria on the second floor. Present her with your findings and convince her there is something bigger at play than just the murder of Father Lorgan. Valeria will give you apass into the Lower Cityand tell you to report to Devella in the Elfsong Tavern.
