Minsc Overview

Minsc is one of the characters that you can meet in the game. He is a Human Ranger that has a small little hamster as his best friend. This hamster, Boo, is what Minsc describes as a “Miniature Giant Space Hamster.” You will find Minsc during Jaheira’s personal quest where you will need to reach the Counting House. This is where you first meet him, but you will learn that a Doppelganger has Minsc and is pretending to be Jaheira. From there, you will need to convince him that it isn’t her.

Minsc is a character that plays a pretty important role in the events of Baldur’s Gate 2, so it was shocking to see him alive and well in Baldur’s Gate 3, which takes place one hundred years after the events of the second game. Minsc is one of the characters that you could potentially miss out on. If you lost Jaheira during Act II, you will only have one chance to pass a high Intimidation or History Check to save Minsc. If you fail, you will have to kill him. Minsc in this game is a lot different from the Minsc that you will see in the last game. Here, his Class is a Ranger, but due to how different the Ranger Class is in this game, he doesn’t play the same way. That means that if you wanted to play him as you did in Baldur’s Gate 2, you would need to reroll him as a Barbarian.

Best Subclass For Minsc

While the Beast Master Subclass is probably the best Subclass for Rangers, Minsc is different. The closest Subclass to his past play style would be the Gloom Stalker, so that is what this guide will focus on. This specific Subclass will focus on the same Abilities that the old Minsc had, creating an interesting mix of freshness and familiarity with this character. Gloom Stalker focuses on stealth and using cover to ambush enemies. Here’s the best Abilities to start with.

With Gloom Stalker Rangers, Dexterity is going to be your best Ability. This is what will allow you to use stealth and ambush enemies so well. Your Constitution will allow you to increase your health, ensuring Minsc isn’t going to die easily.
