While this week has brought a new round of controversy in the gaming industry (this time it’s Xbox’s turn), it was just last week thatPlayStationwas under fire fromHelldivers 2fans afterforcing PC users to link to a PSN accountto play a game they had already purchased.
PlayStation would eventually go on torevert this requirement, saying the studio was “still learning what is best for PC players.” But with the whole fiasco still fresh in the community’s minds, Arrowhead’s CEO John Pilestedt has asked the Helldivers 2 community if it would be “tone deaf” to release a new Premium Warbond so soon after.
Helldivers 2 Devs Are Considering Turning The Game’s Review-Bombing Graph Into A Cape
Helldivers 2’s account-linking fiasco has come to an end, but its negative reviews could be immortalized forever.
Taking to X yesterday, Pilestedt said, “With the negative sentiment around account linking, a concern from the team came up about ‘is it tone deaf to release a new (paid) warbond this soon?'” The CEO then said Arrowhead had agreed to put this decision to the community “in true democratic fashion.”
In just a little over 12 hours, over 180,000 Helldivers had voted on Pilestedt’s poll with an overwhelming number of players option for Arrowhead to release the new Warbond today. A massive 73% of votes were in favour of Arrowhead releasing the Warbond, as opposed to the 26% of players that believe it should be delayed to a later date.
Many of the replies were positive toward Arrowhead, with one user saying, “The fact you’re posting this and concerned about this shows how much the devs care about the community.” They then went on to say, “it’s not the devs fault all that happened, that was a Sony rule. So don’t punish yourselves.”
Pilestedt then said that Democracy had spoken and the Warbond would be released today. Shortly after, Arrowhead revealed the new ‘Polar Patriots’ Warbond on the game’s Discord, which includes three new Armor Sets, Weapons, Utilities, and more. Check out the image below for more details.
