Jason Momoa has established himself as a great action hero in Hollywood, having starred in a series of blockbuster films and shows. However, his acting prowess reached new heights when he landed the part of Aquaman in the original DCEU, first as a cameo inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2015), then in Justice League (2017),and finally as the protagonist inAquaman (2018).
Now, after his last role inAquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023), talk of the town was that the actor could return to the new rebooted DC universe created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, but in a different role. While fans adored the actor’s depiction of the half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry, will they be as excited if Jason Momoa returns to the screen as something other than the King of Atlantis?
Will Jason Momoa play Lobo in the new DCU?
After much deliberation and scrutiny, Milly Alcock was cast for the role of Supergirl in the new DCU. Now that this casting was settled, all eyes were onJason Momoawhen the rumor mill started churning that he might say goodbye to his role asAquamanand pick up the part of the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in the upcomingSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowmovie, all set to hit theaters on June 26th, 2026.
While Momoa is well-known for his role as the ruggedAquaman, a recently shared post on X by DC Film News paints a different picture of him being eyed for the role of David Corenswet’s archenemy.

As soon as the post went up, fans began pouring in their thoughts and remarks, many of which expressed concern as to why the actor was switching roles so soon after his last movie,Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, released in December of last year. This concern of the fans also stems from the fact that in a previous interview (viaCollider), Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed that Jason Momoa would only play one role in the rebooted DCU.

While being asked whether that role would be Aquaman or Lobo, Safran responded in a cut-and-dry manner,“Too early to say.”Following Peter, James Gunn added that:
Jason always thought Aquaman was a trilogy in his own mind. But he also loves Lobo. He’s been very clear about that, too. He’s never gonna play two characters, but no decision has been made.
While theGame of Thronesactor’s casting as Lobo is still rumored, only time will tell if he plays the King of Atlantis or the bounty hunter. However, what’s evident in this regard is Jason Momoa’s interest in the role of Lobo.

Jason Momoa has often demonstrated his acting ability, from playing the chieftain of the Dothrakhi Khalsar to playing the role ofAquaman. From his acting to his physical interpretation of the role, he portrayed every character to the core.
Adding to this, in a past interview withScreen Rant, the actor discussed how he would have modified the part of Lobo if he had been given the opportunity. Excitingly, he said that for the part, the character’s signature chain and hooks are a must, but he is also considering making other adjustments here and there. He added:
What’s Lobo got? He’s got the great chain with the sickle on it, right? He’s got the chain and the hook? Obviously, we’re going to have to do stuff like that. But I’d throw in some kind of custom piece.
The chances of theGame of Thronesactor taking a different character turn with Lobo seem quite likely given the box office failure ofAquaman and the Lost Kingdom(viaCBR). These struggles have further put a question mark on his return as Aquaman in the upcoming DCU.
