Cataclysm wasplanned to beAnthem’sfirst major post-launch updateafter the game originally released in February of this year. After thecriticism thatAnthemwas met with at launchthough, BioWare ended uppushing back the expansion indefinitelyin order to fix other aspects of the game. Now, some 3 months it was originally supposed to launch, Cataclysm has essentially dropped out of nowhere today.
As part ofAnthem’supdate 1.3.0, Cataclysm has arrived, marking it the first time that new story content has come toAnthemsince launch. Cataclysm will be open to players who have completed the Incursion mission of the game’s main story. Cataclysm itself seems to be a new run-based mode that is all about maximizing your score.
Here’s a description of Cataclysm according to the patch notes:
Cataclysm- Battle Vara Brom and her forces in a dangerous new game mode that evolves over time. Teamwork is heavily encouraged as you battle against the dangerous environment and time itself, unlock secrets, and master the Cataclysm to earn all new rewards and rank up the leaderboard. The Cataclysm is available on the Start of Expedition screen for all players who have completed the “Incursion” mission.
In addition, BioWare has also added a new guild system toAnthemas well. This includes new functions that can now be operated in an app. There’s also a new system known as Inversions that has been added to the game along with a slew of additional changes and big fixes.
The big question though for Cataclysm: will this bring players back toAnthemin droves? Well, for the time being, we can’t say. Personally speaking, I think this update has come out far too later after the game’s initial launch to reinvigorate interest from those who own the game, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Anthemis out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC right now. Cataclysm is entirely free if you already own the title.
