Alan Wake 2is still one of the best games of last year. Gamescom 2024 is in full swing at the moment, with one show after another announcing a whole host of new games to be on the lookout for. Out of all the games we’ve seen so far, there is one, dripping with atmosphere, that has particularly caught our eyes.

TomorrowHead Studio has revealed the first trailer for its debut title,Will: Follow the Light, at Gamescom’s Future Games Show. It has already piqued our interest with its excellent presentation and inspired soundtrack, and from what we’ve seen so far, this one deserves to stay on your wishlist.
Will: Follow the Light “Follows” in the Footsteps of Games Like Alan Wake and Firewatch
From its first trailer alone, it’s easy to tell that there’s going to be a lot to like aboutWill. Described by the developers as a game inspired byFirewatch’sfeeling of escape and loneliness along withAlan Wake‘svisuals and atmosphere, it’s a risky but fascinating combination that most fans of story-rich games would want to check out.
Featuring a densely and oppressively atmospheric world set in the harsh Nordic Lands along with a particularly catchy soundtrack that feels inspired by Akira Yamaoka’s work onSilent Hill 2, the presentation here alone makes the game feel compelling and unique.

That’s not even counting the excellent choice of featuring the last part of Rudyard Kipling’s“If,”making it clear that the game will deal with themes of fatherhood and masculinity as the protagonist searches for his missing son.
As the team puts it, the tale is all set to take you on a roller coaster ride while communicating the importance of caring for your loved ones. This may be where the inspiration fromFirewatchcomes into play.

All in all, it feels like an homage to some of the best mystery narratives gaming has to offer. Given TomorrowHead’s background, this is the oneout of the many Gamescom announcementsthat we can’t wait to get our hands on.

From what we know of TomorrowHead, the team appears to share a love for travel and wanderlust, wishing to deliver experiences that will take players on the wildest of journeys full of interesting worlds and locales.
Their goal can’t be communicated more clearly than in theGamescomtrailer for their debut title, which already features snowy landscapes, stormy seas, and rugged and cruel mountaintops. In a way, this feels like a different take on horror thanDetective 8020, the other prominent horror gamefeatured at Gamescom.
