Marvel has revealed the first look ofX-Men ’97 Season 2for fans who attended D23 and Beau DeMayo’s comment for it sounds promising. DeMayo was the lead writer and showrunner of the first season and he was largely involved in the second season as well. However, he left the series before the premiere of the first season for yet-to-be-confirmed reasons.

DeMayo shared that the announcements regarding the second season sounded promising and aligned with his creative vision. Brad Winderbaum, the Head of Animation and Television at Marvel, showed up for the panel at D23 alongside voice actors Cal Dodd and Lenore Zann.

Brad Winderbaum released a few major updates about the second season ofX-Men ’97. During the Marvel Animation presentation, Winderbaum introduced the new outfits of the team, inspired by Grant Morrison’s run of the X-Men comics. These suits were designed by artist Frank Quitely. Winderbaum also revealed that other characters likePolaris, Danger, Havoc, and Apocalypsewill also appear in the new season.

X-Men ’97former showrunnerBeau DeMayohad a few positive things to share with fans after Marvel’s update. Commenting on the introduction of Polaris, he shared that she was one of his favorite mutants and that he found a way to introduce her into theX-Men ’97universe. He also commented on the new costume change for the mutant team.

He shared that the new Grant Morrison comics-inspired costumes had a lot to do with some of the important upcoming storylines and themes of the series. He further commented that the new suits had strong ties toGenoshaand the E in the logo stood for Extinction.

One of the fans also asked the creator about his level of involvement in the second season of the critically acclaimed series. He shared that the whole season was entirely his idea when he left the project, but couldn’t confirm if Marvel kept it as such. However, he shared that the announcements so far seemed aligned with his original vision.

He also added that he would not be doing any production rewrites as well. Marvel has already found a replacement for him in the third season, roping inMatthew Chauncey as the lead writer.
