InAlan Wake 2, as with many other games, if you look closely, you can find many hidden Easter eggs while you’re playing. Some of these Easter eggs will be more obvious, while others you wouldn’t even know were there unless you were specifically looking for them.

Alan Wake 2: Best Words Of Power Upgrades

Alan Wake 2 offers unique upgrades called Words of Power. Some are fantastic, while others are only ok. This guide breaks down the ones you need.

Some may not be as obvious until you really think about the connection, but once the realization hits you, it’s all you’ll be able to think about. This is especially true for those Easter eggs that are a bit obscure unless you’ve paid attention to the branches of the franchise in the last 13 years.

10The Blue Thermoses

Flashback To First Alan Wake

Throughout the game you will find areas where you canmanually save your game. In this area, you will see a blue thermos of coffee sitting on some kind of surface depending on where you are. Upon interacting with it, your game will save, and you can continue on without the worry of losing your progress.

This might be the most obvious Easter egg, as in the firstAlan Wake, the blue coffee thermoses were used as collectibles in the game. This adds a nice familiar touch to this Alan Wake installment, yet surprising all the same with how the thermoses are being utilized differently than before.

The Alan Wake 2 character is about to save with the blue thermos.

9Night Springs DLC

Not Just A Fun Callback to Alan’s Old Show

Throughout the game, you will find various clues to the upcoming DLC that is due for release in 2024. The first of two planned DLCs will be called Night Springs and will allow you to play a few different characters in episodes of Night Springs. It will be all about the paranormal and unexplained happenings.

The developers announced the DLC just before releasing Alan Wake 2. This means that this Easter egg is pretty obvious, but only if you know about the upcoming DLC, so it lands in the 9th spot on the list. You can find this Easter egg in a few different places, including a billboard, a flyer on a wall, and televisions. A few of them will even read, “Night Springs New Season Coming Soon.”

The Alan Wake 2 character found a Night Springs Easter egg.

8Twin Peaks

Referencing The Show

While you’re playing Alan Wake 2, some of the elements may seem familiar, but you’re able to’t put your finger on it. Remedy Entertainment used the show, Twin Peaks, as a heavy reference when developing this game and its predecessor. Various artwork screams Twin Peaks, such as the same font used in the ‘Welcome To Bright Falls’ sign that’s used in the ‘Welcome To Twin Peaks’ sign, and a similar neon sign used in the Twin Peaks title card is used for the Mirror Peak Bar in the Dark Place.

If you’re looking for the Words of Power in Alan Wake 2, this guide can help!

Knowing the show, Twin Peaks, will make all of these signs a lot more obvious, but still, it remains obscure for those who haven’t actually watched the show just yet. Both Bright Falls and their police are nearly mirrored from Twin Peaks. This lands at number 8, since it’s still an obvious Easter egg if you get the references.

The Alan Wake 2 character passed the Welcome To Bright Falls sign which is similar to that of the sign in Twin Peaks.

7American Nightmare Clothing

The Flannel Alan Wears

Those who have kept up with the Alan Wake franchise have probably heard of or played American Nightmare. This is a 2012 game that expands on the first Alan Wake. The character model for this game is wearing a gray, white, and black flannel, which is exactly what Alan wears when he changes into new clothes during Alan Wake 2.

As the list of best Easter eggs is getting more obscure, this Easter egg isn’t probably too well known, though some players may wonder why the outfit looks familiar. Considering this egg is still out in the open and not fully hidden, it comes in at number 7.

6The Shining References

If you’re a horror game fan, then you most likely enjoy horror movies. Most people have seen the 1980 classic, The Shining. If you haven’t, then this Easter egg won’t be noticeable at all. The first thing is right after the prologue when Saga is driving on a winding road through a vast forest — this mirrors when Jack in The Shining is driving to the Overlook Hotel. It also has a similar ominous melody to it.

Not only that, but in the Dark Place, while visiting the “haunted hotel,“the Oceanview Hotelduring Initiation 5, room 101 will have a similar bathroom design to that of the one in room 237 in The Shining. This slides into number 6 due to the obscurity of some of The Shining Easter egg references, especially for those who’ve never seen the movie.

5The Lego Monster Fighters

A Hidden Train Easter Egg

While this Easter egg is a bit of a stretch, Remedy is known to put such vague and quirky references in their games. After youunlock the Caldera Subway Station, you’ll see a train to the right of the platform with the numbers “9467” next to the doors above the small American flag. If you search these numbers for a train, the Lego Monster Fighters edition will pop up.

Found at Caldera Subway Station right after the ticketing counter, just take a sharp right from the platform.

This comes in at number 5 because it is such a minuscule detail that it will probably be overlooked, and it doesn’t really add anything to the game other than being a funny reference. The Monster Fighters Lego edition shows a black train with ghouls coming out of it, matching the spooky feel of Alan Wake 2.

4Death Rally Arcade Game

First Remedy Game Reference

Coming in at number 4 is an Easter egg that doesn’t really add anything to the gameplay but is a very cool reference to find. When you’re at Elderwood Palace Lodge in Bright Falls, head to room 105. In this room, you will see a vintage arcade system called Death Rally.

Alan Wake 2: 10 Best Characters In The Game, Ranked

Alan Wake 2 features many incredible characters and performances. This is breaks down the best in the game.

This was Remedy’s very first launch into the video game industry, dating back to 1996. This Easter egg will most likely be overlooked as you have to go out of your way to find it, which is why it comes in at number 4. Unfortunately, you’re able to’t play the actual game at the arcade cabinet, but the fact that Remedy gave a reference to their very first game is certainly noteworthy.

3Recognizable Characters From Control

Characters Reappearing In The Game

Ahti, the janitor from Control, can be encountered in various places in Bright Falls and the Dark Place, such as the talk show with Mr. Door, and living with the residents at the Valhalla Nursing Home. “Nightless Night” movie posters featuring “Ahti and the Janitors” can also be found in various places.

Dr. Casper Darling makes video presentations on his own scientific theories throughout Control, and he’s one of the main characters who was able to resist the Hiss invasion with his HRA invention. The voice actor, Matthew Porretta, also voices Alan Wake, and his book titled “My Interpretation Of Many Worlds” is found in Mr. Door’s dressing room. You’ll also catch a glimpse of Dr. Casper Darling and Jesse Faden (the main character from Control) in a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance on TVs while touring the Oceanview Hotel in the Dark Place.

Mr. Door appears in a live-action portion of the game, portrayed by David Harewood, interviewing Alan Wake on his talkshow. Dylan, Jesse’s brother, will mention having dreams where he visited him in Control. The obscurity of connecting the Dark Place to Control, plus the missable artifacts, posters, and book, put this Easter egg at number 3.

2The FBC Itself

FBC Patrolling Bright Falls

In the early chapters of the game, you will notice FBC “No Entry” signs on the gates near Nightingale’s murder site, as well as a few fleeting comments about the Federal Bureau of Control having authority over Bright Falls, particularly Cauldron Lake.

As you progress through the game, their presence becomes more known, but The FBC Easter egg is at the number 2 spot because the realization of what the FBC is actually doing won’t hit you until later in the game. At first, you won’t understand their purpose and can easily overlook the signs pointing toward the Dark Place and Control.

1Altered Items From Control

Flamingos And Ducks

Altered items are those items that are affected by any events happening in the Altered World. It appears that you will begin to run into the ducks once you are able to enter the sauna. This references that side mission in Control where you had to chase a duck playing as Jesse Faden. Ever feel like you’re being followed? Saga definitely does when it comes to the ducks that are popping up randomly wherever she goes.

The flamingo cutouts can be found when you’re at Coffee World, and you’ll notice they’re very similar to the altered item you’ve seen in Control in the mission where you must cleanse it. You may even notice they’re very concentrated in The Lighthouse Trailer Park. These seem to be the most obscure and therefore lands at number 1 because, unless you know to look for these items, they are easily overlooked.
