The horror genre in videogames has been thriving this year, with the likes of Still Wakes the Deep andSenua’s Saga: Hellblade 2sending gamers closer to cardiac arrest. Speaking of adaptations, the horror community wasdesperate for a feature filmbased on the spectacle that wasDiablo 4’sVessel of Hatred trailer to be made, because of its intensity and stunning graphics.Elden Ringfans have also been discussing who should helm the movie adaptation that FromSoftware is open to explore, and onedark fantasy directoris currently the frontrunner.

Hands-On Preview: Fear The Spotlight Perfectly Evokes The 90’s Horror Aesthetic
Fear The Spotlight turned out to be one of my most delightful surprises of Summer Game Fest.
Stormind Games and Saber Interactive recently unleashed the first trailer for The Road Ahead, showcasing impressive graphics in cinematic cutscenes mixed with first-person gameplay, where the characters attempt to “survive in silence” against deadly creatures. Dubbed an “exclusive spin-off”, the survival horror follows a unique story inspired by the acclaimed movie franchise.

Players will pilot an asthmatic college student, Alex, accompanied by her boyfriend Martin as they survive the invasion and “strive for silence when hiding from, and sneaking by, horrific creatures who hunt using only sound”. The setting has been described as a “new, eerily tranquil, post-apocalyptic landscape” with mechanics revolving around stealth and high-octane chases.
Once the trailer had been released into the wild, horror fans quickly applauded the exciting adaption, praising its cinematic quality. The community was also greatly relieved to learn The Road Ahead was a single-player experience instead of a multiplayer project or asymmetrical title like the popularDead by Daylight.
One advocate said “We need more licensed horror games that aren’t asymmetrical” and another was “glad to see that this is a single-player game. I don’t have anything against asymm online MP Games…but every time a horror franchise was announced to be made into a game it was an asymm or MP team-based shooter.” Lastly, one X user stated, “I’m not a multiplayer person so it kind of sucks for me that all these awesome horror IPs are putting out games that I will never play.”
The Road Ahead’s single-player format will enhance the protagonist’s journey, as Alex has to “endure a treacherous apocalypse in the midst of interpersonal family conflicts, all while coming to terms with her own inner fears”. Straying from a multiplayer experience also allows players to discover their “path through the world by observing your environment and leveraging the tools in your surroundings”.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead currently has a “coming soon” release window, and following the game’sSteam pagewill keep you in the loop with updates.
