Does Sea Of Thieves' Success Mean There’s More To Come?

Earlier this year, after months of rumours, leaks, and speculation, Microsoft officially confirmed that multiple Xbox exclusives would be making their way to other platforms such as the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. The first batch of games would be Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush, the latter of which was developed by thenow-defunct Tango Gameworks. Pentiment hit PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on February 22nd, while Hi-Fi Rush was released for the PlayStation 5 on March 19th.

These releases were then followed by Grounded on April 16th and, finally, Sea of Thieves on April 30th. Microsoft said it was “excited for more players to experience these worlds and stories on more platforms,” so does that mean that we can expect even more Xbox exclusives to make their way to PlayStation 4 and 5?

While Sea of Thieves' huge success on PlayStation 5 is likely just an added bonus for Xbox, studio head Phil Spencer recently toldIGN(viaThe Verge) that fans can expect more first-party titles to go multi-platform. “You are going to see more of our games on more platforms, and we just see that as a benefit to the franchises that we’re building, and we see that from players, and the players love to be able to play,” Spencer said.

Fans are rightly excited by Spencer’s recent comments and by the success of Sea of Thieves. Over on X (formerly Twitter),one user said, “Can’t wait for more Xbox games to arrive on PlayStation,” whileanother joked, “PlayStation players loving Xbox games is a wild stat to see. Never thought I would see the day.”
