Another beloved TV series of the 2000s is making a comeback, this time with everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family. AMalcolm in the Middlerevival is in the works on Disney+ nearly twenty-five years after the show originally aired.
The reboot will feature returning stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek as Malcolm, Hal, and Lois. Original creator Linwood Boomer will also return as a writer and executive producer for the miniseries. Malcolm in the Middle’s original series, which ran from 2000 to 2006, featured 151 episodes.

Kraven The Hunter’s Opening Weekend Box Office Numbers…Yikes
The opening weekend for Kraven The Hunter looks grim. What does it mean for Sony?
Malcolm in the Middle Will Return as a Short Miniseries.
Viewers' return to the wacky Wilkerson family is expected to be just four episodes long. The show will pick up with a much older Malcolm and center around his relationship with his daughter, as Hal and Lois insist the pair make an appearance at the couple’s 40th wedding anniversary. Many fans online were originally skeptical of the revival, but many were relieved to see the shorter runtime. They viewed the reboot series as a pseudo “check-in” on Malcolm and his growing family.
Currently, it remains unknown if we’ll see any of Malcolm’s three other siblings. Christopher Kennedy Masterson moved on to the silver screen after his role as Malcolm’s oldest brother Francis. Justin Tyler Bertfield, who portrayed Malcolm’s older brother, Reese, retired from acting years ago. Erik Per Sullivan hasn’t been cast on television since 2010 after his breakout role as Dewey, Malcolm’s only younger brother.

Malcolm in the Middle was an integral show in thesingle-camera comedy show genre, known especially for its classic fourth wall breaks whenever Malcolm would address the audience directly to vent about his chaotic life. Boomer’s brainchild was nominated for 33 Emmy nominations during its runtime, winning seven in total, including back-to-back awards for best writing and best directing in a Comedy series from 2000-2001.
The Malcolm in the Middle revival joins an already-stacked list of classic shows from the early 2000s receiving reboots. A new Scrubs series is currently in the works at ABC alongside Hulu’s revival of the hit drama Prison Break as the television landscape looks to target everyone’s nostalgic bones for 2025.
