Akihiro Ononaka’s popular magical girl series,Gushing over Magical Girls, was recently renewed for a second season. The first season was a decent success, and the series received a lot of appreciation from anime fans. Thus, the creators announced the second season with a teaser trailer that offers an even better insight into the story by Ononaka.

Gushing over Magical Girlsfollows the story of Utena Hiiragi, a simple introverted girl who is obsessed with Tres Magia, the Magical Girls trio who saved her town. However, her life changes when she gains powers and is forced to side with the powers against Tres Magia. She discovers a new self who likes being evil and sadistic against her idols.
The anime series gained a lot of attention for the first season, which led to the announcement of the second season. But there are some fans who had a few complaints with the first season and would want the series to avoid them in the upcoming season forGushing over Magical Girlsto be an even bigger success.

1The Explicit Use of Lolicon Fetish
Gushing over Magical Girlsis a narrative that is based on teenage girls and their journey. However, the series, instead of focusing much on their story, uses them for lolicon fetish in a major way. And this is not limited to one or two episodes.
This aspect of the series has been expanded in the entire first season. This affects the character’s growth in the series, and their plot gets limited to only beingutilized for sexual and bizarre developments.

While it is understandable as the series is a part of the Ecchi genre, even then it exceeds the expectations.
2Animation Quality is Not So Good
Gushing over Magical Girlsis a new-age anime series. Thus, fans expected it to have a better animation quality than what was portrayed in the first season. The series explores the elements of magic and mysticism, which led fans to believe that it would have stunning visuals.
But the only decent animation that fans witness is during the first three episodes. After that, the series’ animation goes downhill pretty quickly. In fact, even the fighting montages suffered because of the declining animation quality.

Gushing over Magical Girlshad the potential to get a decent animation, but the series was disappointed in that aspect.

Thus, the creators of the series need to focus on the animation quality in the second season, as it is one of the most important aspects of any anime series.
3The Main Story Gets Hidden
Gushing over Magical Girlshas a great storyline that has a decent potential to be one of the best anime series in the Magical Girls genre. It has an avid addition of drama, suspense, thrill, and action. However, all of this gets hidden behind the fanservice and erotic elements of the series.
Gushing over Magical Girlsfocuses so much on the ecchi side of the series that it adversely affects the narrative and its development. Not only that, but it also causes hindrances in major aspects like fighting moments.

The second season will probably delve deeper into the story of Tres Magia and Utena Hiiragi, and thus the creators need to reduce the s*xual aspects of the series as much as possible if they want the second season to succeed.
4The Building of Relationships
Gushing over Magical Girlsexplores the elements of magic and evil, but it also focuses on relationships being developed during the process.
While most of these relationships are greatly portrayed, the bond between Tres Magia doesn’t do much for the fans.
Tres Magia is a group of magical girls who are essentially superheroes. However, their bond with each other is not intriguing at all. In fact, it is one of the major things that theGushing over Magical Thingsignores.

The second season of the series needs to give more substance to Tres Magia’s bond and explore it even further. It would add a new arc to the series that could essentially work in favor ofGushing over Magical Girlsseason 2.
Gushing over Magical Girlsis available to watch on Crunchyroll.
