The third-person aspect of gaming feels as though players are alongside their gaming hero. Third-person shooters take a lot of the same aspects as first-person shooters but add a change in perspective. This a lot of the time is done to change how a game is played. Other times it’s done for absolutely no reason besides the fact that the developers thought it’d look better.
Whatever the reason there are some great third-person shooters out there. This list will go over a lot of different styles of first-person shooters. These third-person shooters are some of the best in terms of their gameplay, design, and narrative structure.

1010/10 Max Payne 3
Max Payne 3is one of the most satisfying games to play. The mechanics allow for the player to throw themselves around while shooting at enemies. On top of that, the bullet time mechanic makes it so that players can slow down time for perfectly aimed shots.
The multiplayer wasn’t anything interesting and the servers have been discontinued since 2021. With that said, the game’s single-player is worth checking out. The story is interesting and allows players who have never experienced a Max Payne game before to slowly transition into the story.

99/10 Risk Of Rain 2
Risk of Rainis a third-person shooter meets roguelike meets bullet hell. There is so much going on in this game that it can be extremely to keep up for beginners. Players can unlock new characters and items that will make them stronger as they keep trying to beat the game. When players die they have to restart completely fresh.
The game is a true challenge for anyone willing to take it on. The graphics are also very different from anything players have seen before and they do not need to worry about having played the first one. For players who don’t have a ton of hours and patience to sink into a game, this might not be the one for them.

88/10 Grand Theft Auto 5
Grand Theft Auto 5takes everything that the previous Grand Theft Autos have done and increases in their ability tenfold. The gameplay is enjoyable and has all of the mischievousnesses that the previous games had. The single-player story is phenomenal and there is so much to do without ever needing to go online.
Going online is completely different as it feels like a playground of fun. Many gamers wish that the next title wouldn’t take another five years to make, but a lot of them are without a doubt still happy with how great this game is.

77/10 Fortnite
Fortniteis fantastically absurd. It has taken all of the modes it brings and brought countless hours of joy to many people. Even those that hate it can’t deny that they were able to have fun with the part of it, even if it was just for a little while. That’s because Fortnite knows how to get fans coming back.
Fortnite feels like its own breathing being with a constant influx of new interesting characters. The PvE mode along with the game’s map always seems to be changing. Sometimes it’s not the changes the community wanted but many players will come back to check out the next big thing every season.

66/10 Outriders
outriders pc game pass
Outridersfeels like a Gears of War love child. The gunplay feels quick and brutal in its movements. The momentum of the main character feels swift but heavy. The gameplay feels like a sequence of arena battles thrown at a player, but how they’re done creates a linear narrative that feels open in its areas.
The environments that players travel to are stunning with changes in the enemies and biomes. Each area tells a story within itself while the main narrative slowly unravels. It also has a looter shooter aspect that doesn’t tire out the player.
55/10 The Last Of Us
The Last of Usis abeautiful gamefull of fantastic flavors. Players get to explore the vast wasteland that’s been taken over by the infected humans. The game is linear yet each of the areas feels like it has hundreds of stones waiting to be turned over with secrets to unravel. The story is compelling from beginning to end and the combat remains great throughout.
The weapons are fun to use as each seems to serve a purpose in the way combat is fought. There are long areas full of shooting combat that make the game feel quick and exciting, but also moments where players need to be slower and much more methodical.
44/10 Ratchet And Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal is the third installment in the Ratchet and Clank series and one of the best. The weapon variety is increased to 20 and there are a lot more upgrades that players can toy with in each of the weapons. Unlike many other titles on this list, the game also playslike a platformerwhich adds to the enjoyment of running and gunning.
The game interestingly combines humor and gameplay to bring players a roller coaster of a game. This game gives players more gameplay styles than previous iterations. It’s a third-person shooter the world is lucky to have.
33/10 Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4deserves the remake that’s being made for it as it is one of the most thrilling games made to date. The levels feel open yet when flooded with enemies create the perfect sense of constriction. It takes the survival horror genre and makes it so that every item found needs to be cherished by the player.
The design of the game’s setting feels cohesive yet manages to mix in so many different types of settings like a lab and a castle. The game has nail-biting eerie moments but every second of playing it feels fair and necessary. Any fan of Resident Evil understands why this is one of the best in the series.
22/10 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Uncharted 2: Among Thievesis by far one of the best games in the Uncharted series and all of them are amazing. The game has scenes that will forever be burned into the minds of players. The game is bursting with exciting moments and twists that are never expected. The locations are as gorgeous as ever and seem truly fit for a treasure hunter.
There’s a mix of realism and mysticism that gives it a close resemblance to the Indiana Jones series. Players looking for a third-person shooter that plays like an action-packed adventure movie should try this game out.
Dead Spaceis a third-person shooter where players need to tactically shoot the limbs off of enemies. Yes, it is awesome and no game has come close to this greatness in the third-person genre yet. The game takes place in the future where a future miner has to use future mining weapons to tear terrifying monsters apart.
All of the weapons make sense in this future mining world and in the way that they work. It’s interesting to get them upgraded and see a player’s character grow stronger. The story is good and the survival horror is terrifying so the game is not for the faint of heart, but so well worth the play.
