Even if you win a Buddy’s Showdown minigame, your opponents still have a chance to swipe ‘em if they pass you on the board. But don’t start grinding Showdown minigames just yet!
Every Jamboree Buddy is useful—but which are merely “good,” and which will help you dominate the game? Let’s take a look at which Jamboree Buddies are best.

Wario’s Buzzer Beater
You gain 3–8 coins at the start of each turn.
The least effective Buddies are those which offer a benefit at the beginning of your turn. Even if you win the Showdown minigame, you can’t benefit if an opponent swipes the Buddy first!
The bonus Coins from Wario’s ability are nice, but they rarely make a huge impact.On occasion, they’ll help you buy a crucial item (or Star). Even if you keep Wario for all three turns, the extra cash ain’t exactly game-winning.
Mushrooms Galore
Rosalina’s Radical Race
You gain a cheap item—like a Mushroom—at the start of each turn.
A fan favorite character fromSuper Mario Galaxy—one of the Wii’s best uses of motion controls—it’s only fitting that Rosalina’s minigame is the only Showdown which requires enabling motion controls. win her snowboarding race, and she’ll help keep your inventory full.
Provided none of your opponents swipe her, Rosalina’s items are a nice bonus. It’s not too hard to keep your inventory full, but if you wind up in a dry patch between shops then Rosalina keeps you moving quickly.
However,Rosalina’s ability is a bit of a “non-bo” when you’re near a shop.Since you’re able to buy two items while you have a Buddy, it’s pretty likely you’ll end up throwing out Rosalina’s gift on your next turn.

DK’s Konga Line
Offers to launch you to a random spot on the board at the start of each turn.
DK is the Jamboree Buddy most impacted by RNG.Sometimes, using his ability results in absolutely devastating turns. At other times, he’ll launch you to a useless corner of the board.
When you’re already in a lousy spot, having Donkey Kong is like getting a free Pipe at the start of your turn. If you like your position, though, this Buddy’s ability minimally impacts the game.
At least using the ability isn’t mandatory!
Swipe Coins From Foes
Waluigi’s Pinball Arcade
Steals 3–8 coins each time you pass an opponent.
Waluigi’s ability to steal Coins has a lot of potential, but rarely reaches it. The fundamental difficulty is that if you’re able to pass an opponent, odds are they’ll be able to passyou!
Thus,any time you benefit from Waluigi’s ability, an opponent probably has the opportunity to steal the Buddy.Fortunately, stealing the Buddy doesn’t trigger Waluigi’s ability on the opponent’s behalf.
If you’re using Triple Dice or another item to move a ton of spaces, Waluigi can drain your opponents’ wallets effectively. Make sure to stock up when you pass a shop!

You gain 3–8 on every die you roll.
Mario might not be the most exciting Jamboree Buddy—even if his Showdown features threegreat minigames fromMario Party’spast—but he is the first on this list I’ve found worth practicing the Buddy’s Showdown minigame. The constant bump to dice rolls reduces the chance that you’ll get completely screwed by RNG.
This bonus applies toalldice rolls,not just the normal die rolled at the start of your turn. Mario’s ability mitigates the effect of Creepy Dice, boosts Triple Dice, and even gives a bonus to dice rolls during board events (like the Mechakoopas on King Bowser’s Keep).
Copycat Copycat
Yoshi’s Mountain Race
Copies an item each time you pass an opponent.
Similar to Waluigi, Yoshi’s ability is a little difficult to use strategically since it’s based on passing opponents.Yoshi is a powerful Jamboree Buddy because he may give you powerful or rare items for free.
This is especially relevant when you’re playing with the Pro Rules, since every shop has a limited inventory. Run out of Tower Turners on Mario’s Rainbow Castle? Yoshi can copy you one more.
However, there does remain a significant random element to Yoshi’s ability. If your opponents don’t have items, you may’t copy one—and if they have multiple, your copy will be chosen at random.
Sonic Impersonator
Luigi Rescue Operation
Has a chance to maximize your dice rolls.
After you roll the die at the start of your turn, Luigi’sscarily good abilityactivates. Its chance of success depends on how low you rolled. If Luigi succeeds, your roll becomes the maximum, instead.
Despite triggering at the start of the turn and despite a chance the ability does nothing, Luigi is a great Jamboree Buddy for a single reason:Luigi’s ability does work with items.
Roll 6 with Triple Dice? Luigi can turn that into 30. When Luigi’s ability sends you zooming around the board, there’s a very real chance you’re able to reach the Star twice in the same turn.
Although you’ll never earn the Slowpoke Bonus Star with Luigi by your side, who cares? The more spaces you go, the more shops you visit, and the better your odds of getting two Stars thanks to having a Buddy.
The only reason Luigi isn’t ranked higher is that if you roll well, his ability does nothing. Ironically, youwantto be unlucky—because Luigi will turn it into good luck.
Luigi’s ability is also an easy way to get theLuck’s Favorite Pupilachievement. His ability turns the Triple Dice result into three 10s, awarding you with bonus coins and the achievement as if they were rolled naturally.
3Bowser Jr.
Landmines Across The Board
Jr.’s Jauntlet
Puts a Half-Coin Steal Trap on your space at the end of your turn.
In my experience, Bowser Jr. is the Jamboree Buddy which causes the most chaos. Since this Buddy’s powerful ability activates at theendof the turn, each time Bowser Jr. is swiped from one player, he’ll add an additional trap to the board.
When you’re all bunched up together, it’s easy for Bowser Jr. to wind up leaving an entire section of a game board filled with deadly traps. Even after this Buddy leaves, his ability can still impact the game.
The more turns you have left, the better this Buddy is, as extra turns increase the chance someone will have to fork over their coins.

Get her during the Home Stretch in Party Rules? Go ahead and purchase two Golden Pipes—that practically locks in two or more Stars, if you have the Coins required.
